Fantaisie-Impromptu

Fantaisie-Impromptu is a beautifully simple yet profoundly complex piece. You can enjoy this masterpiece in two versions: the 1834 version and the 1835 version. The 1834 version, or “Fontana Version,” is most commonly performed today. In contrast, the “d’Este Version,” which did not come to light until almost a century later, remains dwarfed by its earlier counterpart. The 1835 version is considered more “complete,” while the 1834 version is seen as more of a draft. However, it is essential to note that the 1834 version was edited, prepared for publication, and subsequently “completed” by Julian Fontana. Therefore, whether you choose the Fontana or d’Este Version, both are equally complete and equally beautiful.
